Hunk House

Trailblazing photographer & filmmaker Bob Mizer (1922–1992) transformed mid‑century bodybuilding into a vehicle for homoerotic imagery through his groundbreaking beefcake quarterly Physique Pictorial (1951–1990). The magazine overflowed with his photographs & with illustrations by queer artists whose careers Bob helped launch.

Long out of print & accessible only to collectors, we are restoring Physique Pictorial page-by-page to make it free & easy to explore online.

History Repeating

Working from his Los Angeles home, Bob photographed thousands of men & turned his residence into a full‑time living space for his nomadic muses. For many, his studio became a permanent home where they spent long days sunning by the pool & enjoying one another's company. As his portfolio grew, so too did his compound, eventually spreading across seven city lots filled with the many men, pets, & props that appeared in his work.

Gentlemen, Hunk House carries that spirit forward, recreating this communal lifestyle as a gay resort cooperative in Portugal — a place designed for day visitors, long‑term residents, & everyone in between. We are restoring, driven by your support, Physique Pictorial to turn this vision into reality.
